TEXTURES & COLORS

Spanish Lace Finish

A Lace Finish is the “Textured” stucco finish used most often in lower priced and tract homes. It has historically been the favored finish of production home builders because it is the least expensive to install, and hides imperfections well. It is rarely used in higher end custom homes.

Fine Sand Finish

Same as heavy sand but with a finer grain size. This finish is a bit more elegant than the heavy sand, but it tends to hide imperfections to a lesser degree. This texture is used in semi-custom and custom home application.

Smooth Finish
Steel Trowel

A smooth stucco finish, also known as a fine cement based finish, is one of the most difficult textures to achieve and is also the most popular among homeowners because it’s easiest to clean and offers a finish closest to looking like a painted home. The difference between Smooth Finish and Spanish Santa Barbara finish is the burnish rustic final look.  And even though both are labor intensive and applied with a steel trowel,  Smooth finishes can be customized by adding different colors to get a “mottled look” leading to a Spanish Santa Barbara finish.

Trowel/Sweep Finish

Trowel finish is the most common and popular finish of concrete used for major types of applications. After the concrete is laid in the formwork and leveled, the trowel is used to smooth and fine-level the surface of concrete.
Then a coat with fan-shaped strokes, lapping each other so as to form narrow, high ridges where mortar flows over the toe of the trowel.

Heavy Sand Finish

A heavy sand finish is a popular finish that is applied using a foam float that brings the sand grains evenly to the surface. Because of the grain size, this finish does a reasonably good job of hiding imperfections. This texture is used in semi-custom and custom home application.

Machine Dash

This stucco finish is sprayed by a specialized texture machine resulting in an even and consistent texture. Dash finishes have a bit more contemporary feel and are common on contemporary, or commercial / institutional properties and not too common place in the custom home arena.

Spanish Santa Barbara Finish

Often confused with a smooth finish, a Spanish Santa Barbara stucco finish is formulated to achieve a semi-smooth, irregular texture similar to the early California adobe style buildings. To achieve it’s unique texture, the brown coat is not flat like in the smooth coat, giving it depth, character and elegance. Depending on the materials used, it can be applied with a trowel or sprayed on. Santa Barbara consists of a nearly completely smooth surface with underlying undulations.

Worm Finish

Worm finishes leave little grooves and indentations in the stucco. These finishes aren’t as common but they still look great. This finish typically uses synthetic stucco options. However, special aggregates have to mix in to accomplish this look. The application is done by hand and rubbed in a circular motion to achieve the worm look. It can come in a fine or heavy finish.
